About Me

Having been raised in a home where I was growing sprouts before I could reach the counter and my dads Stainless Juicer hummed every day, I understood the value of nutrient dense food and nourishing the body at a very young age.  When we would get sick as kids, my dad would slice raw garlic on my toast and mom would take us to “Uncle” an herbal master in Chinatown for a bag of raw herbs to brew and I would drink this and feel better. In other words, as a child, I got lucky.

It was my experience with so many different healing modalities growing up that started me on the path to where I am today, and for that I am forever grateful.  However, my road to here has not always been smooth. I have had several health challenges as many of us have, through natural medicine I have found a way to fully recover and make them simply part of my history.

In my early 20’s I developed what doctors were calling Chronic Fatigue, or Epstein-Barr “like” syndrome or Candidiasis, they just didn’t know.  The effects left me almost bedridden with fatigue, brain fog, pain, indigestion, and all of the other “syndrome” like symptoms that doctors will name when they can’t identify the cause.  This was a wake-up call for me, while I had to avoid some foods, I also had to add in some specific foods that help to balance the body.  I was treated with a regimen of herbs and a few simple natural supplements.   After a few months my life force had been restored.  I was not just “disease” free I was living with vitality and joy again.

What I have learned along the way is that the body has a miraculous ability to recover when you follow a few simple rules:

1. Remove the source of toxic reaction or allergen
2. Be sure the body is receiving adequate nutrients on a cellular level to function
3. Treat any inflammation in the body using acupuncture, energy work, sound, tuning forks, color therapy, applied kinesiology…all of them work to remove inflammation but which treatment works for an individual is as personal as the diet they need to feel healthy.

In 1993 I began studying the art and science of using food as medicine.  As a nutritional counselor and “food therapist,” as my clients would call me, I would fly to patient anywhere in the world to create a diet that would help their body to correct imbalances.  Having worked with many different types of cancers, fibromyalgia, allergies, disorders affecting children (Tourette’s, ADHD, Autism) obesity, arthritis, and the entire spectrum of GI issues (reflux, digestions, Crohn’s, IBS) I can say from experience that the food we eat is one of the most underutilized tools for health that we have daily at our disposal…it is also the most emotionally charged.

In 1997, my father and I approached the National Institution in 1999 after 4 years of working on a project for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. entitled The History of Alternative Medicine in America was created.  I collected a vast array of studies, research materials and the life’s work of Michio Kushi and other amazing visionaries who understood how food can create and destroy health.  They were honored by the Smithsonian Institution for the impact they had on changing the way the United States governing food regulators viewed food, including changing the, “4 Food Group,” mentality and equally important, the American Cancer Societies’ recommendations on healthy dietary suggestions.

Since that time I have been so fortunate to study with some of the most amazing doctors and healers.  Learning all the modalities I use in my practice today.  I used to think that when people got better it was a magical event, my teacher used to say, “no it’s just logical.”  What he meant was if you remove the source of the problem and create balance in the body it will heal.  It happens again and again in my clinical practice but it never ceases to amaze and humble me just how remarkable the body’s ability to heal can be.
